For Gold and Glory: Charlie Wiggins and the African-American Racing Car Circuit
An fascinating companion piece to the PBS documentary by the same name. As Martin University President Boniface Hardin suggested, it is an extraordinary example of a lost heritage in America's black culture. It is also a compelling example of a lost heritage in Indianapolis's racing culture. The Gold & Glory seemed to be a precursor for the modern Black Expo as well as another example of why Indianapolis should be known as the racing capital of the world. If you appreciate either racing or black heritage, this is an excellent read.
