Mathematics for High School Teachers- An Advanced Perspective
I struggled with how to rate this. It did provide me with some interesting things to think about in relation to my students who struggle with math anxiety, and at least one thing that I'm going to implement in my classroom.
However, these are the things that led me to the two star review:
1. It's outdated. (Revised in 1993, and holy cow has math education changed since then). This especially frustrated me in the chapters on gender, which attempted to explain that there was no true difference between gender while still maintaining strict gender roles and saying that certain activities were only for boys.
2. I couldn't figure out the audience. If it's written for educators like myself, then a lot of material is stuff that does not need to be explained. If it's written for people who actually HAVE math anxiety, then some of the explanations are definitely too fast and intense and in too mathematical of language - they would set off the math anxiety rather than helping to alleviate it!
