Francois Mechain: The Exercise of Things Book

Site-specific sculpture and photography are inextricably linked in Franois Mechain's art. He usually works in natural settings in the tradition of Land Art, using materials found on the site to make ephemeral sculptures that are the subjects of photographic work. For this purpose he has traveled far and wide, to the immense Canadian forests to the Greek mountains to Normandy to his native Charente. Facing the unique challenge of each place by focusing on its most outstanding characteristics, from its physical environment to its human history, he captures its Genius Loci. This book offers a retrospective panorama of his output, including his projects in progress.
