The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams Book

Very disappointing. I mean, it's Deepak Chopra. Gotta love him, right? Turns out, not so much.

I agree with the laws he suggests. But they're cloaked in such hooey and psychobabble that I gagged. Why not just say that it's important to spend part of every day in stillness in order to connect with our inner selves and break free of the material world/rat race, rather than going on and on about our mystical connections to the universe?

It seemed to be very much pandering to Westerners who want to feel "spiritual" while they also reject Western religion. I don't begrudge them the inclination to look to Eastern religions for a spiritual home. As a Unitarian Universalist I believe that there are multiple paths to The Divine. It was the pandering aspect that really turned me off.

I was also offended by the constant references to wealth and money. Although Chopra frequently points out that success and abundance aren't just about money, he mentions money again and again.

And some of what he writes is just bullchite. He says that if decisions are right, they'll make us feel good. Whole lot of nuance there, mate. What about gut-wrenching, heart-breaking decisions having to do with things like end-of-life decisions?

I initially gave this two stars because I don't disagree with the laws themselves. But as I've written this review, I've become more and more upset, and have lowered my rating to one star.
