The content is so disturbing and the writing so haunting that I find it difficult even to review the book. Instead, I encourage you to set aside a free evening and dive in. You'll find acute despair and misery here, but you'll also find a feeble but persistent glimmer of hope. This story is not a happy one, but nor is it misanthropic chaos. For its raw power alone, I highly recommend it, despite its having left behind a clinging film of despondence.
