It is Chimp and Zee's special day! The twin monkeys are celebrating their birthday, which is filled with surprises (and some word play fun). After receiving and opening the birthday cards "by pulling this way and pulling that way," the duo take off on their new, birthday scooters to Jungletown for the biggest surprise of the day. The excited pair still clad in their pajamas ride off to find the next surprise while their parents, Mumkey and Papakey, try to keep up with the pace. A short cut takes the twins to muddy Slimy Swamp and an encounter with the "Big Green Thing," a fire breathing dragon who crosses their path later in the story. The toots of the scooter horns send the "Big Green Thing" away and call Mumkey and Papakey to the rescue. The family arrives in Jungletown and the reader helps Chimp and Zee "pull this way and that way" to reveal the huge surprise.
