IF YOU ARE READING THIS, you have uncovered one of the four hidden scrolls I have compiled about the world of Avatar. This scroll contains sacred information about the Earth Nation -- stories, legends, and facts that I have found so far about this nation -- its history, culture, and tales of its past and present.

Katara tells how she inspired a group of Earthbenders imprisoned on a Fire Nation ship to take a stand; Aang explains how he managed to outsmart the great Earthbender, King Bumi; and Sokka recounts the tale of the Great Divide. Included are sections on Earthbending moves, the great Earth Kingdom Kyoshi Warriors, and more.

Keep this scroll safe, and share it only with those you trust. Beware, for there are many who wish to expose its secrets....

Children's Literature

Based on the popular Nickelodeon animated series, "Avatar the Last Airbender," follows the adventures of Aang, a twelve-year-old boy who is the Avatar, being born with the power to control fire, earth, water, and air. After being frozen in an iceberg for one hundred years, Aang is awakened by fourteen-year-old Katara and her brother Sokka into a world oppressed by tyrants from the Fire Nation. Realizing he must bring balance back into the world, Aang sets out with Katara and Sokka to master his elemental abilities—journeying to different realms where the native culture is built around different elements. In The Lost Scrolls: Earth, Aang and his friends journey to the Earth Kingdom where they inspire its people to stand against the Fire Nation, outwit a king with ties to Aang's past, and settle a dispute between two feuding Earth tribes. In between these stories are sections about Earthbending martial arts, history, and culture. Based on actual Chinese martial arts and aspects of many different Asian cultures, The Lost Scrolls: Earth is fun to read and can interest kids in actual Asian history. If and when this happens though, be sure to provide them with more reliable nonfiction texts. Reviewer: Michael Jung
