It's not an easy book to read; it's very dense and some of the language is very arcane. The book is at heart a sociological and anthropological study of Bloomerg's urban governance policies and tactics. There is a glossary of all the acronyms of all the different governmental organizations, non-profits, etc. used throughout the book, which, if you're like me and can't remember everything, you will be turning back to quite a bit, which can get a bit tedious.
That being said, this is a very informative read about Bloomberg's perspective, as well as his constituents', on urban governance. The inherent contradictions revealed in the Bloomberg Way, at least when it comes to running a city, are articulated in ways, not to mention backed by evidence, that I could never describe or put into words before, but thanks to this book, I have ample debate ammunition to take on all of the Bloomberg lovers I know!
I wish the book discussed the Barclays center in Brooklyn. Alas, I'll have to wait for a separate book focusing solely on that whole urban planning debacle. Or, maybe I'll write it.
