The Three Musketeers: Volume I: Men Of the Sword
Can I just be perfectly honest here? I'm a big fan of classic literature. There are many books that I enjoy from that era, and I really liked The Count of Monte Cristo. I didn't know that much about the Muskateers before picking this book up. But now that I have... Well, I honestly struggled with it.
The first part of the story was extremely fun. I was enjoying myself, extremely entertained by the antics of the Muskateers. I don't know if it was supposed to be funny but that's how I found it. Unfortuantely things took a turn for the worse when Milady was introduced into the story. The plot focused more and more on her until there came a point where it was more about her than the Muskateers.
So that's why I gave this book a lower rating. I liked the Muskateers. I found their personalities interesting and their individual stories worth reading. I liked when the author addressed the audience. But then it became about Milady and it became extremely tedious and reading became a chore.
Not to say that this book isn't worth reading. There were many parts of it I enjoyed, and it brought up a lot of different issues I found interesting. I just lost the fun I was having earlier in the novel. Maybe that was the author's intention. I don't know.
