In How Would It Feel?, Mary Beth Goddard takes children on a journey of fantastic proportions, inviting them to imagine a playful interaction with the natural world. Children and parents alike will have an opportunity to view the world from widely varying perspectives, such as high in the sky or deep under the sea. For children ages 4-6.
This is a wonderful union of the imagination of the author and the creativity of the illustrator. A perfect match. The title refers to how it might feel to be free, to go on fantastic journeys, riding on clouds and traveling on rainbows. "Then when the night calms,/to see stars shooting by,/could you swing from their arms/as they dance through the sky?" The reader is taken along a magical, mystical, pathway where many questions are posed and then answered in illustration. The path is always friendly, never forbidding, and encourages the young reader's imagination to soar. How would it feel to wake up in a flower or to play tag with the sun or to have the moon sing a lullaby? Finally, it is time to go back to bed, "Back to the family/who loves you the best." The detailed watercolor illustrations and fanciful borders are classic interpretations of a child's storybook. The author's poems, brought together in this story, were written for the author's son Alex. 2005, Bear Cub Books/Bear & Company, Ages 4 to 6.
