The spitfire heroine Pepita has been given a school assignment to "find out things" about her parents or another older member of her family. But who wants to hear about her ...
Gr 2-4-In this pleasant tale with a simple message, Pepita, a spunky, imaginative, and engaging protagonist, must interview her relatives and write a report for school. Pepita worries that neither her parents nor her Aunt Rosa will have anything important or exciting to say, and after interviewing them, her fears seem confirmed. But as she wonders how to embellish her report, the girl comes to realize that her relatives' humdrum, everyday activities are actually very important. The text pages are quite full, with about 200 words of English text at the top and the same amount in Spanish at the bottom. The translation is not stilted or burdened by hard-to-convert colloquialisms in either language. Warm, cartoonish illustrations render quite expressive characters. Recommended for all collections.
