Fluorescent orange, emerald green, sunlight yellow and highly patterned snakes fill the pages of this easy-to-read book. The pages are piled with flashy, close up, and graphic photos. Each page contains basic, but interesting information in short sentences geared toward youngsters who are beginning to read independently. This lever two reader contains fact bars that offer information such as a mambo snake can travel twelve miles per hour and the world's smallest snake, the lesser Antillean, was only discovered in 2001. New vocabulary is defined on the pages in a box aptly labeled "Words-s-s." Some fun-filled riddles are included and are displayed with the questions right side up and the answer upside down so readers turn the book over to get the answers. A simple picture glossary is included at the back. A fill-in-the-blank story for readers to complete, rounds out this book that is sure to draw the attention of young readers who like snakes.
