KLIATT

Once again, Orca Soundings has provided a high-quality story for reluctant readers. This fast-paced, heart-thumping novel is about what it's like to get the chance to live someone else's life. Christopher Bent is a senior in high school whose family believes he is lazy and will not amount to anything. At school, things are hardly better, with Mr. Oxner looking for him to screw up once again and suspend him. But, all Chris has to do is get through a few more weeks of high school without getting himself in trouble. The one good thing is Alexa Doucette, who has recently shown some interest in him, though he cannot fathom why a girl of her status would want anything to do with him. And then he finds a wallet that changes everything: now he has access to a bank account loaded with money and a license that, with some hair dye, matches Chris's description. Although the temptation to do the right thing is there, it is this wallet that symbolizes what Chris wants for his life. What if creating a new life really is this easy? I.D. will appeal to most any upper middle school or high school boy because of its current-day theme and fast-paced action, packed into a short novel. A definite recommendation for reluctant readers.
