Let Me Be a Woman Book

Encouraged to read this by my girlfriend. One of hers, and my sister's, favorite books. To be frank, I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. This book is theologically sophisticated (Calvin, Luther, Barth, etc. are all quoted often), culturally subversive (her slides at feminism are humorous), and includes a very convincing, easily-accessible case for a conservative understanding of Christian marriage.

This book will certainly elicit strong feelings from various women and men, but it's hard to not recognize the power and readability of this book. Love it or hate it, this is definitely a classic for Christian men and women to consider as they think about the wonderful distinctions between men and women.

As an aside: I said "women and men" for a reason. Like I noted, I only read this book at the insistence of my girlfriend but examples abound of lessons that both genders can learn about love, marriage, sacrifice, etc. Not only did I get to witness a biblical femininity that is praised by women whom I am close to, but I also was encouraged and exhorted toward a higher masculinity. I'll be encouraging the many men in my life whose wives love EE to read this book so that they can see that the flipside of a biblical femininity is a biblical masculinity and the two are only so good as when they are reflecting each other in their distinctions.
