Peter Peter and Wanda love to watch their pumpkins grow fat in the field. Life is lovely, until the rains come and make their mud hut sad and soggy.
When Peter Peter needs to buy tin for a new roof, he decides to trade their goat for a bag of treasure. But the treasure turns out to be nothing more than some big seeds! What will Peter Peter and Wanda do now? Little do they know, those seeds might be just what they need.
A bit of a nursery rhyme and some folktales seem to have been blended together to create this story about Peter Peter and his wife, Wanda. The husband and wife happily tend to their farm's pumpkin patch. When the rains arrive, they discover that they need to repair their hut's leaky roof. Wanda's father tells Peter Peter to fix the roof immediately so that Wanda does not get sick. Peter Peter sells the goat to purchase tin for the roof, trading it for a bag of treasure which he plans to trade for tin. Oddly, he trustingly accepts the trade without examining the treasure. At the tin seller's shop, Peter Peter feels duped when he discovers that the treasure is just some large seeds. Disgusted with the transaction, he tosses the bag of seeds in the mud. By evening, something mysterious begins to happen. Soft, gentle pencil drawings illustrate this story of Peter Peter and Wanda as they find a solution to their problem. In the end, "life is lovely" again. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
