The Pleasures of Children's Literature Book

An outstanding collection of thoughts and insights into what children's literature is and what we mean when we say 'Reading for Pleasure'. I would argue that it put into question much of what I see and read upon the subject of 'Reading for Pleasure' in a very good way - not bad for a text written in 1992. Nodelman had already written and published extensively on picturebooks and narrative art at this point and in this collection he looks more at strategies for reading literary texts and even braves the subject of what makes for good and bad literature - although with acknowledged reservation. This would make for a great, foundational read for anyone wanting to find a balance between theory and pedagogy in the field of children's literature.
