Hey, Dollface
This was a kindle unlimited read/listen for me and it was very uneven.
At first it felt too YA/teen and the banality of the dialogue was irritating. In the middle I could see Hautzig convincingly bringing the MCs together and getting closer.
But there was quite a bit of death (first one MCs grandmother and then the other's father) as ballast to the teens hanging out.
I really enjoyed Chapter 10 but 11 was a distraction. Then 12 started out positively and the book finished with a disappointing ending. I think it's a measure of how far we have come that Hautzig didn't write an HEA to this story. Not that high school friends always ride off into the sunset together, but still it can happen (and usually does now in these stories -- yeah!)
So the writing was really pretty good given the YA feel (maybe a 4?) but I was so irritated and frustrated that I can't give it more than a 3. You may like it more than I did (especially if you are closer to high school than I am) and if you are happy with a realistic but slightly depressing ending.
