The Christmas Angel Book

This is a really cute story. My children have had it quite some time, but I never read it with them because of the religious matter in the story. If my kids had wanted to read it on their own that would have been one thing, but I really didn't like reading religious stories.

Well, now we're going to church again, so I decided to give this book a chance. The story is about a little angel that wants to deliver a special song to baby Jesus on the day of his birth. He thinks really hard and comes up with the perfect song. Unfortunately, the other angels decide his wings are too small and he couldn't possibly make the flight. They'll tell him all about it when they get back.

This little angel, being like most impatient and curious kids who feel like they're being left out, kept peeking over the edge of the cloud to see if he could see anything, despite the warning to stay away from the edge, lest he fall off. Sure enough, down he tumbles to Earth, where it's cold, scary, and not at all what he imagined. He finds his way into a tent and ends up in a bag with jewels, hoping he's not a carry along for a jewel thief.

Much like one would expect, the angel gets bounced around inside this bag as it's carried by camel all the way to wherever these men were going. As it turns out, these men were the three Wise Kings, and they found this little angel to be a good omen. He sings baby Jesus his song, who seems to like it pretty well, then is carried back home to Heaven.

The story is cute with a tiny element of adventure. I wouldn't say there's any clear message or moral in the story, but that doesn't make it any less cute of a read. It's definitely not a book for someone who doesn't have a Christian view of the holiday, but I'm sure that's easy enough to guess with the fact that it's about an angel. My kids thought the story was cute, so I think that's good enough to net it four stars from us.
