Her past emotional wounds are reopened when her family rejects her once again and she finds out that Timothy is in a relationship with someone else. Miriam discovers that the rumors that broke them up three years ago were all lies. However, when Timothy proposes to his girlfriend and Miriam's father disowns her, Miriam returns to Indiana with her heart in shambles.
When Miriam's father has a stroke, Miriam returns to Pennsylvania, where her world continues to fall apart, leaving her to question her place in the Amish community and her faith in God.

Twenty-three-year-old Miriam Lapp had left the Amish community she grew up in behind after she broke up with her beau, Timothy Kauffman, four years ago. Now living as an Englisher in La Grange, Indiana, with her cousin Abby Johnson, Miriam is happy working in a pediatrician's office. But then one fateful day, she gets a call informing her that her beloved mamm has passed away. Miriam travels home for her mother's funeral, not sure of what awaits her upon her arrival in Pennsylvania.
Timothy Kauffman was heartbroken when his fiancée, Miriam Lapp, broke off their engagement and left their Amish community in Gordonville. He had heard she possibly had an English boyfriend, but had never gotten the real reason for her leaving from Miriam herself. Timothy tried to move on by courting other Amish girls, but has never stopped loving Miriam.
As Miriam struggles with her mother's unexpected death, she finds very little acceptance from her Amish relatives whom she left behind when she left the faith. As Miriam spends more time attempting to make amends with her estranged family, she discovers that perhaps she made a terrible mistake by leaving Timothy so hastily. Is there any hope for their love to rekindle--or was it even really over in the first place?
A PLACE OF PEACE is the third book in the Kauffman Amish Bakery Series by Amy Clipston. Readers may wish to read the first two novels in the series first to get the background information on the characters before beginning A PLACE OF PEACE, although it can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone read. Fans of Amish fiction authors such as Beverly Lewis and Wanda Brunstetter will enjoy this fairly new author to the genre. Forgiveness and faith are the order of the day, and emotions run high throughout this novel. Once readers get started, they will find it hard to stop reading as they will want to know how this mixed-up misunderstanding works itself out. The topic of organ donation is touched upon in the story as it has affected the author personally, while some Amish recipes are included throughout the novel also. Book number four of this series will debut in October 2011 and will be titled A LIFE OF JOY. Be sure to mark it on your calendar!
