Rebecca struggles to give the teenage girls the guidance they need as well as fulfill her duties to Daniel as an Amish wife.
Rebellious Jessica is resistant to Amish ways and constantly in trouble with the community. Younger sister Lindsay is caught in the middle, and the strain between Rebecca and Daniel mounts as Jessica's rebellion escalates. Instead of the beautiful family life she dreamed of creating for her nieces, Rebecca feels as if her world is being torn apart by two different cultures, leaving her to question her place in the Amish community, her marriage, and her faith in God.

FULL DISCLOSURE: Amish romance is generally not my thing. I'm reading this for work. What I like about Amish romance usually is learning about the culture. I also truly did enjoy the plot of this novel. Becoming the guardian of two teenage nieces whom you've never met must be difficult under the best of circumstances. I can't even imagine how difficult it is when there is a major cultural difference too. I think the author did a lovely job of describing the various points of view. As a feminist and as a more spiritual rather than religious person.....there were times I seriously wanted to throat punch characters in this book. I am all for respecting the culture of the people with whom I live. However, if a 16 year old girl, WANTS to continue her education, she should be allowed to, even if her guardian doesn't believe in it. I was also proud of Rebecca for standing up to her husband Daniel, however, this was seen as stubborn and selfish behavior. This was not enjoyable for me to read. Finally, although I know that often women will become pregnant after trying for YEARS. It's a little TOO convenient that Rebecca winds up pregnant...a little too pat.
