Where freedom grows Book

When a sister and brother sneak into a haunted house, they create the opportunity for students to learn about a local hero who fought in the Mexican Revolution. This story of a hero on a horse reminded me of the story of Paul Revere who is remembered largely because of a poem by Longfellow. Without this poem, he could have been relegated to local hero status. A vocabulary word that teachers could use when reading this book is: destiny. A discussion or writing assignment could follow the reading of this book, as could a discussion on Spanish music. The illustrations lend to comprehension of this story which is printed with English and Spanish text on each page.
