Rather than being a history of the Civil War in New Mexico, this is a compilation of military memos and correspondence in the area during 1861 and 1862. This gives one a different perspective of the day-to-day activities and rumors that circulated in the long interim between the only 2 significant battles in the West. It does get a bit old reading over and over "Sir, I have the honor to report that..."
