The Silver King Mine was the catalyst that enabled settlement of the Central Arizona territory during the 1870s. This book details its history throughout the last 130 years up to the present day's attempt to reopen the historic old mine. Filled with vignettes about the everyday life of pioneer men and women, tales of Apache warfare, rugged prospectors, miners, rich ore strikes, stagecoach holdups and frontier justice, it depicts how people lived during the West's most turbulent time. The book is 384 pages and contains over 200 images of 1870s-1880s photos, newspaper articles, and advertisements, as well as recent photos of the Silver King Mine and nearby areas.
About the Author:For over ten years Jack San Felice has written and lectured about the history surrounding the Superstition Mountains and nearby areas. He is also the author of Squaw Peak-A Hiker's Guide, Lore of the Superstitions, Treasure Trails of the Superstitions and numerous short stories published by the Superstition Museum, Apache Junction Independent newspaper and other sources.

Having visited two South Carolina Revolutionary War battle sites in September, 2012, I became intrigued with this era. I purchased this book from the National Park Service Visitor Center at King's Mountain Battlefield. It is a series of letters from patriots about the various battles.
Because it is written in 1770's English, it is at times difficult to understand, but after reading a while, one develops a "new" vocabulary of archaic words and phrases, and it becomes very interesting. No one is so dastardly as the British commanders, Banastre Tarleton and Patrick Ferguson. Any war is awful, but back then there were no anesthetics or antibiotics. You cringe with pain for our heroes as they suffer and die. You laud their victories and triumphs.
One understands the terrific sacrifices that were given, and realizes that without our patriots in South Carolina, we may very well have lost the war. I recommend this book to any history buff.
