Little siblings of Duck and Goose fans rejoice! The stars of the bestselling Duck & Goose and Duck, Duck, Goose return in this board book for preschoolers, this time, to introduce basic opposites. Goose carries an ohso-heavy log, while duck easily balances a light-as-a-feather feather. Thistle is one fast bird, but Goose is slooo-w. And when Duck is sound asleep, Goose is wide awake. With a simple text and colorful illustrations–plus the inimitable characters, of course–here’s a wonderful, and humorous, introduction to an important concept.

Children's Literature

Duck and Goose are at it again, and the cover gives a big clue as to what the book is about—opposites. Duck is looking up into the sky and goose is looking down at the ground. Duck, Goose, and friends are delightful and on the opening spread we see them from the front and then the rear. The expressions on their faces are great. The scene for loud and quiet is amusing with one little duck quacking away while Goose is listening to a whisper from Bird. The book continues with happy/sad, near/far, slow/fast, clean/dirty as other pairs, several of which are amusing, such as the heavy/light comparison where Duck is straining to hold up Goose while a pal is balancing on one leg with a feather on his nose/beak. The last spread is equally as entertaining with Goose wide awake and his three pals all sound asleep. This is a book that toddlers should enjoy and presents easily understood concepts in an engaging manner. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
