University of Kansas Students

Tell It Like It Is

Why attend the University of Kansas? The school is in the middle of some remote hayfield right?

In order for prospective students to better understand KU and its rich traditions, they must realize that the University of Kansas is quite different from the stereotypes of the state in which it is located. KU sits high atop the hill with a view of Lawrence, Kansas and its 80,000 residents. The hilly landscape, large trees, and historic buildings provide a true college atmosphere. The city of Lawrence surrounds the University and is supported by over 20,000 college students. These stats all sound great, but how can a prospective freshman (or transfer student) know if KU is the school where he or she really belongs?

The University of Kansas College Prowler guidebook provides students with tons of off-the-record information to help best decide if KU is the university they would like to call home for the next four years. College Prowler offers KU student quotes with unbiased student opinions and answers to questions that prospective students may not have even yet thought of asking.

For Instance . . .

If you are going right from high school to KU and have a GPA of 3.25 or higher, did you know that you are eligible for a myriad of freshman scholarships?

One student advises that, "The teachers are okay. However, most of the classes are not as interesting as I would like. Going on my fourth year here at KU, I've found these classes to be interesting: Business Stats, Calc I, Pols 170 & 150."

PoetLangston Hughes is from Lawrence, Kansas, the town in which KU's campus is located.

Students name marijuana as the most commonly-spotted drug on campus (and attribute this to the large number of "hippies" that attend KU).

Basketball is the most popular sport on campus, in the town of Lawrence, and arguably, the state of Kansas. The men's team draws national attention every year, and Lawrence is recognized as one of the best college basketball towns in the U.S.
