On January 22, 2003, New York City gave permission to Christo and Jeanne-Claude to realize their temporary work of art, The Gates. In March 2005, they will erect 7,500 "gates" in Central Park. These 16-foot-high structures, draped with saffron-colored fabric, will traverse the park, creating rivers of orange in a glorious spectacle of public art.
