In a revision of his doctoral dissertation for the London School of Economics, McGrath looks at aspects of Catholic education in the British-controlled province since the partition. He analyzes the efforts of the Catholic authorities to maintain clerical control of the schools, focusing on events surrounding the major education laws. He also assesses the impact of the Gaelic features of the schools on education policy to determine whether national issues influenced decisions either by the church or by government officials.
