The American Mixed Border: Gardens For All Seasons by Ann Lovejoy (MacMillan Publishing 1993) (635.963) is a fairly highbrow book on border gardening. The chapters are organized by the various elements of a border: trees, shrubs, perennials, biennials and annuals, vines, and groundcovers. The book focuses more on theory than on the actual "how to" of the matter. My rating: 4.5/10, finished 5/16/12.
