The Album Amicorum of Jacob Heyblocq: Introduction, Transcriptions Paraphrases & Notes to the Facsimile Book

Jacob Heyblocq (1623-1690) began his Album Amicorum in 1645, following the custom of the day in which university students kept small books for collecting inscriptions and other contributions from professors, fellow students, compatriots in foreign lands, and other people they met. Through his position as teacher and later headmaster at the Latin School in Amsterdam, and his active participation in literary circles, Heyblocq's album became the richest example of its kind, with a wealth of contributions from famous artists, eminent scholars, and prominent poets.

This extraordinary set reproduces the complete Album Amicorum in color. A second volume includes an introduction and transcriptions, translations, paraphrases, and notes (including biographical information on the contributors) for each of the album entries.
