Billed as mind-bending brain teasers, the deck focuses on math concepts presented as games, puzzles, trivia and riddles. The idea is to test knowledge of fundamental math concepts from the basics to more complex activities involving geometric shapes and fractions and logic. The game on card 8 is call time and uses a telephone pad to help kids figure out the answer. With the prevalent use of cell phones with full keyboards this game may soon be obsolete. There is a Sudoku game, finding a missing or broken sequence, figuring out patterns or fun games like working your way through a maze by connecting numbers that are multiples of 3. There is a card that names shapes and asks kids to select the correct row. There are sentences with hidden numbers spelled out and players must find the words that represent numbers. Card 36 has kids matching up fingerprints to find out who slurped down all of Fern's frosty shake. There is a cross and kids are asked to put in fractions so that the sum of the numbers in each row and column is a specified value. (If you want to reuse the cards then either have a pencil with eraser ready or a piece of scratch paper, which will be a big help in trying to solve many of these puzzles and problems.) There are foldouts that replicate the cards and provide the answers. Teachers and parents may wish to remove them and provide answers as needed. This and other decks in the series that cover a variety of subjects are useful for travel when there needs to be quiet time and perhaps no electricity to run games, TV or other devices.
