I love this book. Elmer Sherwood, "Daddy Doc," is my great Uncle. I read it the first time when I was in junior High and I hit WW I in my American History stream. (I would hit it again in Highschool and in College.) I don't have the edition listed above because I have a first edition signed by my Uncle. That is the one I re-read and completed last night. I am involved in a book discussion of President Wilson on the History group. When we got to Wilson and the War, I thought it a good time to read this book again. I am glad I did. This memoir is easy to read, simple and straightforward, filled with the compassion and humor I recall in all the members of my father's side of the family. It's easy to get bogged down in the large story of American History. It becomes real when it is brought down to earth by those who actually experienced the effects of the plans and decisions made by those in power.
