The 99 Cent Only Stores Cookbook: Gourmet Recipes at Discount Prices Book

This book prompted me to actually look in the food section of the local dollar store (No 99 cents stores in my area of Washington state). I ended up buying walla walla sweet onions, 3 for a dollar.

There was absolutely nothing spectacular about the recipes in the book, but I don't think that was the author's point. Many of the recipes one uses in one's own kitchen can probably be made with items from the dollar/99 cent stores. Yes, the stores offerings were mostly brands that I had never heard of and there was a huge emphasis on the overly processed (I know where I'm going for my next vienna sausage fix), but if I'm adding salt to a huge pot of water to boil pasta in, I'm not going to be able to tell the difference between the no name brand I got at the dollar store and the morton's I could have picked up at the supermarket (and I'm sure somebody out there wouldn't use anything less than fleur de sel in their pasta boiling water).
