Jackie Robinson is the first African- American baseball player to be in the major leagues. Most people think of him as a great baseball player, but there is more to his story than that. Before he became a baseball player, Jackie went to UCLA for college-where he met his soon to be wife. After that, he played for the "Negro Leagues" which are teams made up of only black baseball players. Branch Rickey noticed that Jackie was truly an awesome player, so he asked Jackie to become a player for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Even then, Jackie Robinson still faced racial segregation. He retired from baseball after about 10-12 years of playing. Although it is about 60 years after he retired, Jackie Robinson will always be one of the famous people in baseball history.
