Summer Fires
This trilogy was originally published as individual books back in 88/89. I picked up this edition at the bookstore sometime in 2002. I just recently found it in the trunk of my car and decided to give it another go! I LOVE anything written about the Civil War, even historical romance.
Book 1. A love/hate story about a yankee woman trying to hang on to her farm on the hostile Arkansas border. Enter confederate hero to save the day. That's the premise, but the story is much juicier! The novel may be kinda short, but it reads like a sweeping southern epic. You'll laugh and maybe cry a little, too.
Book 2. Shannon and Malachi's story! The war is over, but the healing has just begun. And I'm not just referring to the state of the country. These two fierce characters have a hate/hate relationship when they start to wonder if all that passion isn't being wasted. (wink, nudge) You will already love these two when you get to their story and it doesn't disappoint.
Book 3. Unfortunately, this story feels a little obligatory. You will love Jamie as a character, but the novel falls flat compared to the other two. I can't shake the feeling that he was robbed! He was such a patient, peace-maker thus far and he kinda gets saddled with a shrew! It's the reason why this 3 in 1 edition gets 4 stars instead of 5.
