I enjoyed reading this book. I tried the Zebra Cake and we ate it in 2 days. The cake was a bit Euro style dry. The amount of frosting produced certainly didn't match the picture, hardly covered the cake, but the taste balance was fine. Still, I may try double next time to improve looks. I also tried the white choco cake. I discovered it had the same flaw as the basic choco and yellow cake recipes in the author's Cupcakes! book. Too much leavening. I tried it a second time with half the amount and it turned out fine.
I like the unpretentious-ness of Klivan's books. And the general selection of recipes. "Chocolate Cakes" would warrant 4 stars if her basic white choco cake recipe worked the first time without changes.
