Short and Sweet with a Treat Book

Quite a powerful read in so many respects. I enjoy the way Krishnamurti engages with children and shares his ideas, ideas that even challenge the teachers and parents sitting in the room. The way he talks about the hypocrisy of idealists, for example, is quite intriguing. I also appreciate the way he examines the pitfalls of religion--especially the ritualistic aspects that require one to merely mimic and rarely understand. Also, I love his discussion of education, particularly the dialectic between memorising and understanding. I just wish that schools would actually confront the fears they face and consider this challenge seriously so that examinations, which require memorisation, could be abolished and research, inquiry, and projects, which demand understanding, could be put in their stead.
