Security and Intelligence in a Changing World
The value in this book is not in its accuracy but in its inaccuracy. This is a propaganda book about the very real issue of German spies in America during WW2. It might as well be written by the FBI. Some of the stories are based on factual cases such as the Duquesne spy ring. The Hauptmann case existed, but it was presented with one lie after another. The Hauptmann case is significant because that is the case that President Bush used as his precedent for Guantanimo Bay detention. The value of this book is the showcasing of the paranoia that led to the nearly 200,000 people who were interned for at least part if not the whole war, a little over half of whom being the Japanese. This was the 1943 edition. There is an updated version that I intend to read at some point for comparison.
