Revolution for nature Book

The 1990 book by a German professor of the philosophy of nature proposes that humankind move to create a "nature state," in which man lives in harmony with the natural environment. Meyer-Abich is relatively short on the specifics of how such a society would function, and relatively too trusting of a market economy's ability to lead us to it. But he does drop a bunch of interesting ideas along the way: the idea that there is not one "environment" but many, one for each organism; that political will derives ultimately not from self-interest (as in the classic liberal model) but from what people love (and of course they don't now love nature enough); the notion that science and industry need to be more like culture, not the other way around; and how the abstraction of money creates the abstraction of an economy in which people work to earn rather than to live (and in which money becomes disproportionately powerful lever to turn nature into consumer product).
