This work examines how the world’s many religions contributed to humankind’s intellectual evolution and points out their value in the future. Rosemont also explains that all religion enhances our non-material lives by providing a sense of fully belonging.
Rosemont argues that while Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are more interested in cosmology, Eastern religions focus more on instruction for those living in the world, in sacralizing the secular by becoming at-one with it. Nonetheless, Rosemont (liberal arts, St. Mary's College of Maryland) believes that both traditions can work together to help people better their state in this world. Rosemont's argument is followed by a commentary from Huston Smith. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
