When I got this book I didn't realize it would read like a textbook. I tend to be easily bored, and like to be entertained as I read, so I almost didn't bother to read it after I picked it up. I'm glad I did. This 700-page volume is a collection of articles by dozens of authors, and covers everything you'd ever want to know about Irish immigrants. (I'm doing story research, BTW.) Particularly interesting to me were the sections on Irish women in domestic service, an the anti-Irish sentiment in the 19th century. Also included are articles on Irish music, both traditional and popular, and Irish dance.
