Painting and Sculpture in Germany and the Netherlands: 1500-1600 Book

This is a pretty dense read, but it's always fascinating to see the artwork from so long ago and wonder about the people who made it, and why they did. I think about why they made the heads of their horses so small compared to the flanks, or why they never drew portraits, or what they thought about perspective, or how they came up with the first flutes. I wonder about the similarities and differences with children's drawings. I wonder about what was lost when the waters rose at the end of the ice age.
