America is in the throes of a nutritional crisis and children are at its very heart.

Here is a book that forthrightly examines this problem from the perspective of an internationally renowned nutritionist and a holistically trained physician. Learn why:

  • 1 out of every 5 American children is overweight.
  • The incidence of asthma has increased 61% in the past 20 years.
  • Increased teen violence may be attributable to the prescribed use of some antidepressant drugs.
  • Immunizations may be related to autism in infants and children.
  • 2 out of 5 of today's teenagers are likely to later develop oesteoporosis.
  • Environmental and food toxins may cause neurological and behavioral problems.
  • Commonly prescribed amphetamines are not the answer to ADHD.
  • Eating disorders among teenagers have reached near epidemic proportions.

The authors present a positive, balanced approach to health and nutrition that addresses these issues and offers hope to millions of undernourished, overmedicated children and their families.

About the Authors:

Bonnie C. Minsky, M.A., M.P.H., L.N.C., C.N.S., is an internationally recognized nutritionist who has been in private practice for almost 20 years. With a research background in teaching, school and family counseling, and public health service, she brings a unique, holistic perspective to her practice. Her first book, Nutrition in a Nutshell (Vital Health Publishing, 1999), was an informative and comprehensive approach to enhanced health through diet and supplementation. Ms. Minsky is a mother of three grown children and has three grandsons. Her extended family is a living example of the health benefits outlined in this book.

Dr. Lisa E. Holk, a Naturopathic physician, educator, and alternative medicine consultant, is currently on the faculty of Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and Chicago School of Massage Therapy. A member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Dr. Holk is currently licensed to practice in the State of Oregon. Patients, students, and colleagues alike are gratified by her thoughtful counsel on the achievement of optimal health through the modalities of alternative medicine. Dr. Holk applies her educational skills towards curriculum development, academic advisement, and consultative case management within the holistic model.
