Orphan's Destiny Book

[I kind-of wished that the author had Jason find a different way to get Mimi Ozawa to join his 'little mutiny.' The way he went about it, by insulting her pride, her skills, her ability, seemed like a pretty cliché way to go about it (219-220). I understand his rational was that, being not just a pilot but a fighter pilot, her mind and pride worked a 'certain way' and challenging her skills, her abilities, was the 'simplest way' to get her to come around and do what he wanted (i.e. - mutiny and fly them to the mothership in direct violation of their orders). I mean, I "get it," as to why he went about it the way he did and that it worked, but it seems like that tends to be the way most pilots are 'coerced' into agreeing to mutinies and dangerous missions and not following orders in books and movies - by insulting them and their pride/vanity. But, that is just me. Granted, the 'other way' tends to be by complimenting them and telling them they are the best pilot ever and the only one who can do the job and the mission cannot succeed without them as the pilot. So, there you go. Hanged if you do and hanged if you don't. I just thought it would have been interesting (better) if she had immediately agreed to go along with them after saying the plan was a 'dumb-ass' plan instead of having to be 'encouraged' to do so.
