I can comment only on the fifth chapter, "The Making of the Leviathan," which offers a concise summary of the evolution of the theory of the secular, modern state--particularly in terms of the concepts of sovereignty and legitimation. Nelson summarizes the thought of Machiavelli, Grotius, Pufendorf, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, and Harrington. Great for a quick review of key issues in European political theory during the early modern period.
