Negima! Volume 19
This is the halfway book of the series and rather predictably, it's a summer vacation installment. Whether in manga or anime, those tend to be hideous fillers that completely deviate from the plot and are almost non-canon.
Not so in this case, where the intense drama and action of the previous volumes calls for a bit of a break, at the same time taking advantage of the opportunity to further explore the personalities of the girls in class 3-A.
Furthermore, the volume offers snippets of Nagi's (Negi's father) and Asuna's past and leads the way to the next great arc, by showing the training of Negi's companions, with whom he is to travel to the Mundus Magicus in Wales.
Granted, it's much lighter in tone and action, but still ties in organically with the rest.
