A mother brown bear soothes her cub to sleep with a story of bears around the world. All eight bear species are included, with additional facts at the end for young naturalists. A great bedtime story for bear lovers and sleepy cubs everywhere.
Andrea Gabriel's other books include Eaglet's World (Albert Whitman & Co) and Where Do I Sleep? A Pacific Northwest Lullaby (Sasquatch Books). She lives in Seattle, Washington.
A charming book with a precious story of a mother bear letting her baby cub know that, although there are many, many different and interesting bears in this world, the one she loves the most is her own little sleepy cub. Brown bears, black bears, polar bears, panda bears, spectacled bears, and sloth bears are illustrated in bold drawings that are sure to enchant children. Bears from around the world are shown frolicking in fields, climbing trees, swimming, eating honey, eating fish or bamboo, and just sleeping. Some bears hunt for food at night, and some are shown looking at the starlit sky. It is an excellent choice of a book for an older sibling or a parent or grandparent to read to a preschooler at bedtime. At the end of the book, there is a page of facts about the various bears showing a drawing of each bear described. The book is reinforced for library use. 2003, Whispering Coyote/Charlesbridge Publishing, Ages 5 to 10.
