Musical Improvisation: Art, Education, and Society Book

This books covers a lot about music culture but it leans a bit more toward focusing on rock than on pop even though the title is Understanding "Popular" Music Culture. Also, the author is from New Zealand and so, the majority of the time, if the book is not focused on America or the UK, it's focused on Australia or New Zealand -- but these are all English speaking countries so it can feel a bit lacking when it's talking about popular music culture throughout the world or World Music. But again, it covers quite a lot; an excellent book to serve as a base or starter for looking at the culture of popular music.
