Mose T's Slapout Family Album Book

From one of America's premier folk artists, Mose Tolliver, and his friend, poet Robert Ely, comes a delightful book for adults and children. Full-color reproductions of Mose T's fanciful interpretations of the world are accompanied by Ely's playful verse. Mose T's Slapout Family Album is valuable as both a collection of the celebrated artist's work and as a book that parents can read aloud to their children, introducing them to art and poetry.

MOSE TOLLIVER signs his work as "Mose T". A life-long resident of Montgomery, Alabama, he was crippled in a workplace accident. He began painting, using common house paint on scraps of plywood, just to have something to do. The sensual, mystical shapes in his paintings eventually caught the notice of collectors and galleries, first locally, then nationally and internationally.

ROBERT ELY is a Montgomery native, lawyer, and college English teacher whose friendship with Tolliver began out of simple admiration for the artist's work. He was inspired by his daughter to write the poetry included here.

JULIAN BOND, well known for his civil rights role in the 1960s, is a writer, lecturer, and professor of history at the University of Virginia. He is both collector and critic in the areas of folk art and African American culture.
