More Than a Horse Book

This lively young adult novel is truly "more than a horse" story. It follows the adjustments and adventures of twelve year old Leeann, who leaves her comfortable North Carolina home to begin a new life in Arizona, where her mother struggles to learn how to be a dude ranch cook. Leeann also must struggle, to win the privilege of riding Sassy, a friendly but undisciplined ranch horse. The novel is more than just a typical horse story in that Leeann's relationships with her Mom and new group of school friends are just as important as those with Sassy and the grumpy wrangler, Amos.
