This volume extracts the research methodology section of the Handbook (Flood et al. 2003). Flood (San Diego State U.), Lapp (San Diego State U.), Squire (Silver Burdett & Ginn), and Jensen (U. of Texas, Austin) have compiled this text for advanced undergraduate and graduate literacy research methods courses. Following an introduction into the basic categories and functions of educational research, the editors present nine contributed essays addressing such topics as teacher professionalism, "multiple literacies," empirical research, longitudinal studies, case studies, and ethnography, among others. The final chapter explores contemporary methodological issues and future directions in research in English teaching. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
